Cryotherapy, also known as cryosurgery, is the application of low temperatures to a certain area of the body. At Boonville Animal Hospital we use cryotherapy to remove small skin tags on older dogs. This quick procedure can be performed during an appointment as it does not require general anesthesia. We use our tank of nitrous oxide and cryotherapy unit to freeze and thaw the skin during the appointment. After the procedure, the skin tag will look the same, but a few weeks later, it falls off. Larger skin tags sometimes require multiple treatments. Please call us for an appointment if your pet has skin tags you are interested in getting removed.
